Abstract

The otoesclerosis is a frecuently seen disease in the general population and is one of the main causes of conductive hearing loss. It ocurres due to a fixation of the stapes in the majority of cases, and this fixation is secondary to the presence of foci of bone remodeling at the stapes. These foci can also be in other locations. This disease is more often in women of median age and it has a genetic prediposition. The diagnosis is made through the clinical presentation and the audological studies; nowadays, we have the CT scan of the temporal bone of high resolution, that helps us to make a decision if we decide to make a surgery. The treatment depends on what the patient wants, and includes the hearing aids, the stapediovestibular surgery and the cochlear implant in case of important affection of the inner ear
