Effectiveness of mammography as a method of screening for the diagnosis of breast cancer

Abstract
Recent controversies regarding screening recommendations for breast cancer have created uncertainty in the medical community and the general population. This article reviews current recommendations for breast cancer detection of several organizations and the scientific data to support these guidelines, in addition to emphasizing some of the controversies and the reasons underlying the different points of view. Its focus is to offer recommendations based on medical evidence, to provide advice and counseling to women who are at average risk for breast cancer
