Abstract

Twenty-five years ago, when Dr. Enrique Beveraggi assumed the position of Hospital Director, he invited us to accompany him by leading the Department of Teaching and Research (DDI), created in 1968 and until then under his direct supervision.

Together with Licenciada Norma Hernández, we accepted the proposal with enthusiasm and the desire to develop a Department befitting the Hospital’s prestige and professional staff. We could not have imagined that our task would extend over such a prolonged period, longer than any other leadership term in the Institution.

From the beginning, and over the years, the DDI’s activity grew steadily, especially in the last 20 years, achieving a significant expansion of its scope, including its infrastructure and equipment, the latter enhanced with modern technologies.

A noteworthy achievement is that the Department of Teaching has published the Hospital Italiano Journal since November 1981, a project presented by its first Director, Dr. Mario Perman. From its inception, the Journal received broad support from the professional staff and has published 24 volumes, maintaining continuous activity that, while experiencing some setbacks, was not due to internal circumstances but to economic fluctuations.

In analyzing our teaching and research activities, financial aspects cannot be overlooked. Achieving the established objectives required a significant annual budget, made possible by the joint participation of the Institution’s authorities, the Hospital’s professionals, and the DDI’s own management. The intellectual and material support of the professionals, a model in Argentina, enabled the realization of numerous projects during our 25-year tenure.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the support received throughout this long period, from the Presidents of the Board, Medical Directors, Heads of Departments and Services, and professionals in general. This support contributed to the smooth and harmonious execution of our work.

We believe we have fulfilled and contributed to the growth of our beloved Hospital Italiano. We apologize if, on any occasion, we had disagreements with the interests of some Departments and Services, but we have always sought to prioritize the Institution’s overarching goals.

Looking to the future, informatics in all its facets will undoubtedly occupy a priority role in the DDI. We are confident that our successors, Drs. Osvaldo Blanco and Marcelo Figari, will carry forward the Department’s mission with the same dedication, effort, and collaborative spirit demonstrated so far, consolidating teamwork toward a common objective: Hospital Italiano.
