Abstract

Six years ago, the Critical Burn Patients Treatment Area was established in our Hospital. Hernán Alejandro Aguilar, coordinator of the area, describes the operation of what is now called the National High-Complexity Referral Center for the care of major burn patients, which operates at the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires and San Justo.


Mario Sebastiani and Carlos María Cafferata present their perspectives on the legal abortion bill recently debated in the legislative chambers.


María Julia Cura and colleagues from the Department of Dermatology describe the usefulness of digital dermoscopy in the diagnosis of early-stage melanomas in patients monitored for pigmented lesions.


Burnout syndrome, or occupational exhaustion, negatively affects the professional life plan. Matías Muñoz and colleagues identified, from a logotherapeutic perspective, that one in three medical residents suffers from this syndrome.

Cancer cells have the ability to evade the immune system. Federico Cayol, from the Oncology Section, describes the complex interplay between the immune system and tumor cells, as well as pharmacological strategies to stimulate the antitumor response of T cells. Aída E. Sterin Prync, Full Professor of Biotechnology in the Biochemistry Program, explains the basis of CAR-T CELL therapy, which involves genetically modifying the patient’s own T-cell receptors, transforming them into chimeric antigen receptors (CAR).


Prostanoids, due to their vasodilatory, antithrombotic, and anti-inflammatory effects, could represent a therapeutic alternative for critical limb ischemia. Valeria Vietto and colleagues published a Cochrane systematic review which concluded that, compared to placebo, prostanoids do not reduce cardiovascular mortality or amputations, although they may relieve resting pain and improve ulcer healing.
